Hey, crafty friends! ☀️ Some designs just make you smile the second you see them, and my Cute Sun Candy Holder Treat Box is exactly that kind of project. That happy little smiling face and big round eyes get kids excited before they've even peeked inside — and today I'm sharing exactly how to make one yourself!
Whether you're putting together classroom treats, summer party favors, or a sunny little pick-me-up gift, this one is such a fun (and easy!) project to make with your kids.
Why This Design Is a Kid Favorite
The Cute Sun Candy Holder folds into an adorable round treat box topped with a clear dome, so kids can actually see the candy peeking out before they open it. It's cheerful, it's bright, and it works for pretty much any sunny occasion: summer birthdays, end-of-school celebrations, or just a "thinking of you" surprise.
What You'll Need
- Yellow, cream, pink, balck and white cardstock (160–250 gsm for a sturdy hold)
- A clear plastic dome ornament (6cm or 8cm — the file includes both sizes!)
- Cutting machine
- The Cute Sun Candy Holder SVG file (from my Etsy shop — comes in SVG, EPS, DXF, and STUDIO3, so it works with whichever software you use)
- Hot glue
- Candy or small treats to fill it
Step-by-Step: Making the Cute Sun Candy Holder
1. Download and open your file. After purchasing, unzip the folder and open the file type that matches your machine — SVG for Cricut Design Space, STUDIO3 for Silhouette Studio.
2. Pick your size. The design comes in a small and large version, sized for either a 6cm or 8cm dome ornament — choose whichever fits the treats you're planning to use.
3. Cut your pieces. Cut the sun face, base, and border pieces from your cardstock. Since everything is ungrouped, you can easily assign different colors to different pieces if you'd like.
4. Assemble the base and then the Sun. Glue the border strip around the round base to create the little "cup" that will sit under your dome, and then assemble the sun's face.
5. Attach the dome and sun face. Fill your base with candy, snap or glue the clear dome on top, then attach the smiling sun face to the front of the dome.
6. Fill it up and enjoy. Once it's all put together, your Cute Sun Candy Holder is ready to gift, display, or dig into.
